Maximize Your Dental Insurance Benefits!
With 2021 nearing its end, it is time to talk about dental insurance policies and flexible spending. Most dental insurance plans will expire at the end of the year, and any remaining benefits or dollars will be lost for good. If you have outstanding treatment or need professional dental cleaning or exam, now may be the best time to do it! The end of the year is approaching fast, which means your dental benefits are expiring here shortly.
Most dental insurance benefits are automatically wiped out and reset at the end of the year. Don’t let your unused benefits expire. All unused benefits get wasted. Every dental insurance plan has a yearly maximum, and this is the most money that the plan will pay for your dental treatments within one full year. While the amount varies among insurance companies and plans, the yearly maximum usually renews each year on January 1st (check with insurance if it is a calendar year plan). Usually, such benefits do not roll over to the next year and must be used by December 31st. So, if you have unused benefits left for 2021, remember that by the 1st of January 2022 they will be forfeited and lost.
As the saying goes “Use it or Lose it”! The end of the year will be here before you know it. Unfortunately, many of our patients lose out on several hundreds of dollars due to unused dental benefits. We know life can sometimes get in the way and going to the dentist may not be the first thing on your to-do list, but we want to remind you to take full advantage of your benefits. And don’t wait to fix any problems, they only get worse, and no one wants that.
If you are paying your dental insurance every month, then take advantage of it and use it to your benefit. If you are not going to use your benefits, your insurance company keeps it, and it will all be a waste for you. Even if you don’t need any dental treatment, it is still important to get regular dental checkups and cleanings to help prevent and detect any early signs of cavities, gum disease, oral cancer, and other dental problems. Many patients need dental treatment, whether it’s a professional cleaning of your teeth or restorations to treat bad decay. By postponing dental treatment, you are risking more extensive and expensive treatments in the future. Addressing dental issues now, rather than putting off treatment can prevent problems from getting worse, which could save you even more money compared to waiting. What may be a simple cavity now, could turn into a tooth loss later or root canal later?
